Coca Cola Once contained COCAINE

No, it's not your imagination -- that's where the name comes from. The original drink was formulated with "coca" leaves, used to extract cocaine, and "cola" nuts, a source of caffeine. Although Coke contained negligible traces of cocaine at a time when coca leaves were legally used for medicinal purposes, the drink became wholly cocaine-free in 1929, after there was more awareness about the harmful effects of the drug.
